Manchester City Women open £10m first-team base

MANCHESTER, ENGLAND / EuroWire / — Manchester City Women have opened a new dedicated first-team facility at the City Football Academy, adding a 17,000-square-foot building to the club’s women’s football operation in a week that also brought the Women’s Super League title. Manchester City said the project cost £10 million and described it as a world-leading environment for elite women players, with the opening marking one of the largest investments in a purpose-built women’s first-team base.

The new building gives Manchester City Women a separate daily base for training, recovery, medical work, meals and team meetings while remaining inside the wider City Football Academy campus. The club said the site includes a high-performance gym, specialist strength and conditioning areas, dedicated medical, rehabilitation and physiotherapy rooms, plus hydrotherapy and recovery spaces designed to support preparation and reduce injury risk across a long season.

Manchester City said the facility was developed with input from players and staff and built to function as a permanent home for the women’s first team. The club also said the space includes social areas and design details intended to reflect the team’s identity, while maintaining full access to the wider football and operational support already available at the City Football Academy. The site sits alongside Joie Stadium, the 7,000-capacity venue used by the women’s side.

    Facility investment

The opening adds fresh momentum to a season that has already delivered silverware. Manchester City secured the Women’s Super League title on May 6, their first league crown in a decade, after Arsenal were held to a draw by Brighton & Hove Albion. The championship ended Chelsea’s six-year run as league winners and gave added weight to a club announcement that linked the new base to a broader effort to strengthen the women’s programme on and off the pitch.

The project had been in development for more than a year. Manchester City announced the start of construction in March 2025 and said at the time that the building would be a purpose-built home for the women’s team, with room to expand as the programme develops. The club has also said the women’s side remains integrated into the wider City Football Academy model, which allows access to shared performance, football and operational expertise across the organisation.

    Season context

Inside the new facility, daily operations are now tailored more closely to the needs of the first team. The club and team officials have highlighted bespoke nutrition planning, dedicated medical treatment areas and training spaces built specifically around women players. The opening also reflects a wider shift in the women’s game toward standalone elite environments, as clubs invest in infrastructure that had historically been shared with academy or men’s teams rather than designed exclusively for women’s football.

For Manchester City Women, the timing is significant. The facility opens with the club at the top of the domestic game again and with its women’s operation now backed by a permanent base that matches its recent success on the field. Manchester City said the aim was to create an environment where performance, recovery and daily team life are housed in one place, giving the squad a dedicated home as it builds on a title-winning season.
